And we’re stoked for them…2012 was a very fast-paced and mentally rigorous year, what with the Olympics, and tight Supercross schedule leading into the Worlds.īut it got us thinking: Elites are paid to race.
Others have hopped on over to Hawaii to hang loose on one of the world-famous beaches. Some of the stars who are from other-than-US-shores have made the trip home for a bit. The last time we saw our hulking heroes was November 24th, and we will not see them again until March 2. The current Elite off-season stretches a little more than three months. It was admittedly-tough that first year, to figure out something to eat on Christmas Day that was not “smothered” and/or “covered,” but we got through it, and Christmas 2012 was free of grilled onions or cheese product. With the 2011 merger of the ABA and NBL, forming USA BMX, Christmas was saved by BA and the boys, as they decided to bring the President’s Cup to Tulsa, and let BMX families have a proper Christmas at somewhere other than Waffle House.
Usually, it’s pack…un-pack…do laundry, repeat…all year long. An off-season is not something to which BMX Racers have, historically, been very accustomed.
